Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about the kits. Don't see yours? Email hello@tireshopplaybook.com.
Google Sheets & Excel
Do the kits work in Google Sheets?
Yes. Upload the .xlsx to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets (or use File > Import). The workbooks use standard formulas, dropdowns and conditional formatting. There are no macros or add-ons.
Do they work in Excel?
Yes, desktop or web. If Excel shows a "Protected View" bar, click Enable Editing so the formulas calculate.
Which should I use, Sheets or Excel?
Whichever your shop already uses. The same file works in both. Google Sheets is handy if more than one person at the counter needs it; Excel is handy if you work offline on one computer.
What about the Word files?
The SOPs, forms, signs and templates come as editable Word (.docx) files with PDF copies. The Word files also open in Google Docs.
Why can't I type in some cells?
Yellow cells are for typing. Grey cells calculate. Formula cells are locked in Excel (no password) and color-coded grey in Google Sheets, so type only in the yellow cells. In Sheets, Ctrl+Z or File > Version history undoes an accidental overwrite. Keep a backup before you edit a formula.
Buying & downloads
Where do I buy, and how do I get the files?
Every kit is sold and delivered through Gumroad. After checkout, Gumroad gives you the download and emails you a receipt with a link back to your files.
Is it a subscription?
No. Each kit is a one-time price. No monthly bill.
What's in the Core Bundle?
Five kits for $79: the Tire Pricing & Margin Calculator, the Tire Inventory & DOT-Age Tracker, the Customer-Supplied & Online Tire Install Procedure, the Tire Estimate, Work Order & Invoice Kit and the Seasonal Marketing Kit. Bought one at a time they come to $113. The Tire Service SOP & Safety Checklists are sold separately. See the bundle.
Do I get updates?
When we fix or improve a kit, the new version goes on the same Gumroad product. Open your Gumroad receipt or library to download the current files.
Is the free cheat sheet really free?
Yes. It's a direct PDF download on the cheat sheet page. No email needed.
Using the kits
Do I need spreadsheet skills?
No. Type in the yellow cells and pick from the dropdowns. Everything else is calculated for you. Each kit has a Start Here tab and a step-by-step Quick Start Guide (PDF).
Are the prices and numbers in the files real?
No. Tire names, costs, fees and results are example data to show how each sheet works. Replace them with your own distributor costs and shop rates.
Does it connect to my POS or distributor?
No. The kits are standalone spreadsheets and documents. You type or paste your numbers in.
Can I change the files?
Yes. It's your copy. Edit the Word files to match your shop, and type your own numbers into the workbooks.
Legal, tax & safety
Is this legal advice?
No. The waiver form, SOPs, invoice wording and texting and email notes are plain-English templates and summaries, not legal advice. Rules differ by state. Have a local attorney review and adapt them before you use them.
Do the kits give torque, inflation or repair specs?
No. No torque, inflation, bead-seating or repair values appear anywhere. Those depend on the vehicle, wheel and tire, and the only right number is the vehicle manufacturer's spec. The Work Order has a field for the spec you look up. Follow vehicle manufacturer specifications and your shop's safety procedures.
Is the SOP & Safety kit OSHA compliance or certification?
No. It's a set of shop procedures and records that point to recognized standards. It doesn't replace TIA, ALI or equipment-maker training, and it isn't legal advice. Check your federal and state OSHA obligations.
Does it handle my state's taxes and fees?
You set your own sales tax rate, state tire fee, disposal fee and which items are taxable. Tax rules differ by state, so check with your accountant. The kits are pricing tools, not tax advice.
